Free Solo is a documentary film that follows professional climber Alex Honnold as he attempts to free solo climb (climb without ropes or any protective gear) El Capitan, a 3,000-foot vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park.
The film captures Honnold's physical and mental preparation for the climb, as well as the emotional toll it takes on him and those around him. The documentary also explores Honnold's personal life and his motivations for attempting such a dangerous feat. Directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Free Solo won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2019.
