Inclusivity pandering is when a show fills an important role or plot-point with obvious pandering to a marginalized (or more often perceived-to-be marginalized) group, yet the inclusion seems forced and an after-thought. When this happens, the woke label is aptly applied.
A trend within Hollywood productions is the replacement of an iconic or well-established character with someone from the opposite gender, ethnicity, or someone said to be part of a "marginalized" group. Though similar to the "Inclusivity Pandering" criteria, "Swap Slop" warrants its own designation. Adding an unnecessary character to a plot is uniquely different from replacing an established character with an unnecessary one. Shows that engage in "Swap Slop" will be considered woke and will not be added to the database.
If a show implies that racism can only be exclusive to one group or suggests that there are systems (laws) in place that limit people based on their ethnicity then the woke moniker is applicable as no such laws exist (at least in the U.S.).
If a show presents a gross mischaracterization of masculinity or implies that men's (or boy's) behavior is inherently toxic, then that show can be considered woke. This categorization would also include instances where males are portrayed as inherently oblivious or idiots while females are portrayed as enlightened.
If a show's plot is meant to be a reflection of an average society, then the 'gay ratio' should be used. This is the ratio of gays to non-gays in a typical society (up to 7%). Anything over that may be regarded as an attempt to exaggerate uncommon behavior and be regarded as woke.
The "racism of low and high expectations" is especially problematic as it is regarded as virtuous by some. This form of racism presumes that a group of people are either LESS or MORE capable to do something simply as a byproduct of their skin color. Examples include (but are not limited to): Getting an I.D. card, driving correctly, getting good grades etc. Shows that exhibit such racist overtures will be regarded as woke.
A show will be regarded as woke if the plot's premise suggests that a gun is responsible for a person's death rather than the person using it.
Woke religious bias is typically presented in one of 4 ways:
Any show that does any of these... is woke and will not be added.
A show may be deemed as woke if the plot's goal is to normalize an ideology suggesting that more than two genders exist or if traditional gender roles are swapped.
A show may be deemed woke if the show's plot is strategically meant to have people sympathize with or normalize abortion or an assisted suicide.
The woke label is applicable if a show presents children in a sexual way.
A show that props up Socialism or Communism in any capacity (but especially over capitalism) will be assigned the woke label.
Though it was first established as a goal to give equal rights, "feminism" has morphed into a political movement that is no longer a protest against unjust laws or sexist institutions but of people’s unconscious biases that may or may not exist or even be genuinely problematic. The reason for this is because bias-analysis can't always be quantified without invoking the personal biases of the observer hoping to analyze another's bias.
That fatal flaw leaves far too much potential for perceptions of inequality that don't exist. "Flawed Feminism" which ironically includes a general disregard for femininity as a whole has permeated throughout nearly all forms of entertainment. Shows that incorporate "Flawed Feminism" will justifiably be regarded as woke.
It's been called many things... "Depletion of the Ozone" "Global Cooling" "Global Warming" "Climate Change" and a few others over the years. Whatever fad dictates the latest title, all of it can be referred to as "fake news". Though the earth's temperature does cyclicly change, it almost exclusively is dictated by naturally occurring events and/or the large glowing fireball in the sky. Shows that state outright, or give any credence to the incorrect notion that temperature fluctuations are man-made will be deemed woke and not added to our database.
Covid-19 was a blight on humanity. The health concerns were certainly problematic, but they brought along a widespread sense of misplaced virtue. People acted virtuously by receiving insufficiently tested shots, which were wrongly labeled as "vaccines." Additionally, there was misplaced virtue in wearing masks. Access to and acceptance of sufficiently tested medical alternatives to shots were denied and mocked, among other things. All of these issues managed to permeate pop culture and show content. When this happens, the show may be labeled as "WOKE."
Women are inherently softer, smaller, and more passive than their male counterparts. Of course, this isn't always the case, as women can display both emotional and physical strength that surpasses that of men. Hollywood writers are known for subverting traditional gender roles by attributing male characteristics to female leads.
While a storyline showcasing an exceptionally strong woman could generate an engaging plot, such narratives are commonly designed to uplift a female character at the expense of male characters. When this happens, the show may be labeled as "WOKE."
