RedState Reports: Uri Berliner, the longtime senior business editor and reporter for National Public Radio (NPR) who wrote an illuminating piece a week ago confirming the network's Trump-era transition from liberally biased to full-on woke, has resigned.
He posted this statement to Twitter Wednesday morning:
"I am resigning from NPR, a great American institution where I have worked for 25 years. I don't support calls to defund NPR. I respect the integrity of my colleagues and wish for NPR to thrive and do important journalism. But I cannot work in a newsroom where I am disparaged by a new CEO whose divisive views confirm the very problems at NPR I cite in my Free Press essay."
As RedState previously reported, the backlash in the NPR newsroom in response to Berliner's Free Press article was immediate, with some staffers reportedly feeling betrayed while non-NPR media figures busily tried to downplay Berliner’s accusations or outright accused him of lying.
In her response, NPR chief executive Katherine Maher called Berliner’s write-up “profoundly disrespectful" and "demeaning" to staffers of color in particular. The network suspended him for five days without pay as punishment, and also threatened him with termination.
